Cranium florens – An art installation

Have a look at this spectacular object, which was installed in front of the ESR headquarter to raise awareness about the significance of radiology and its role in modern medicine and healthcare, particularly for the benefit of patients.

It was envisaged by ECR 2017 President, Prof. Dr. Paul Parizel, who has always loved the imagery of skulls with flowers as two symbols combining Death and Life/Love.

ESR looks back on successful International Day of Radiology 2019
Image

The International Day of Radiology (IDoR) was celebrated for the eighth time on November 8, this year focusing on sports imaging, and joined by individual supporters and more than 170 radiology-related professional societies from all over the world.
The new IDoR book, ‘Imaging of MOTION & PERFORMANCE. Stress & Strain’, which was produced in cooperation with the ESSR, is available on the website as a downloadable PDF. In addition, we have created a dedicated sports imaging microsite, which uses examples of top global athletes to show the general public how radiology is used in the diagnosis and management of sports injuries. Furthermore, 40 interviews with sports imaging experts from different countries, conducted by the ESR, have been published on the IDoR webpage.

Lung Cancer Screening Certification Programme
Image

To help radiologists introduce Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) and reduce lung cancer mortality, the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI) has developed a dedicated LCS training programme. It aims to provide training for the provision of a high-quality service, including reducing false positives and producing as low as possible radiation doses. Only a few places are left for the LCS workshops taking place in March 2020. Online registration for the case-based lecture organised at ECR 2020 is also now possible.

HERCA launches awareness campaign on appropriate use of medical imaging
Image

On the occasion of IDoR, HERCA (Heads of the European Radiation Protection Competent Authorities) launched an awareness campaign entitled 'Getting the right image for my patient'. The aim is to raise awareness of the appropriate use of medical radiological examinations by helping referrers select the appropriate imaging procedure and avoid unjustified examinations. A toolkit for referring physicians was published in five different languages. ESR contributed to the initiative, which underlines the goals of EuroSafe Imaging.
